Commercial Aircrafts- In Flight Anti- missiles defense system And lufhansa A330 incident.

The C-music/sky shield system, which already installed on some Israeli commercial airliner, is capable of detecting some heat- seeking ground-to-Air-missiles.

Since 2004, Israeli airlines are fitted with anti-missiles defense system. Intially developed by flag Carrier EL AL, the equipment is later rolled out to the Israeli Carriers including Arkia and israir.

It was laid 2004 when news emerged that Israeli national airline was planning to install anti-missiles defense system on it's plane.

The system called flight guard, was an Israeli product and was going to cost $1 million dollars per Aircraft. Intially it was installed on 6  of Israeli Aircrafts, and it's pvoven to be successful, then it rolled out onto all 30 of the airlines planes.

Working of flight guard-
Flight guard work on the Doppler radar system with antennas providing 360 degrees coverage around the aircraft.
Within seconds if missiles being detected invisible flares are released to confuse and divert the incoming missiles.

The system is not without it's contravecy, when it was first installed certain European countries/ authority banned EL AL for landing at there airport. The FAA and swiss Aviation authority called it a fire hazard. Swiss Aviation authority was the first to react with this system as per them release of flares could cause panic and collapsible damage on the ground. And the swiss government threatened to ground any commercial Aircraft equipped with this system on board.
Then the engineers came with the plan- B.

Dubbed sky shield/ C-music-
The C-music system was introduced in 2013, it's operates on a less volatile principle thermal cameras detectes an incoming missiles and fires a laser that confuses the missiles from Target.

As per Daniel Nisman( Levantine group- developer of sky shield)-
The system is designed in such a manner that flight crew doesn't have to do anything, they may be alerted when there is any incoming missiles but otherwise they are not expected to take any basic maneuvers, the sky sheild James the missiles sensors and confuses it and sends it away from the aircraft to explore. All this happens with in very short amount of time.

The sky shield system is effective against only the shoulder fired heat-seeking missiles.

Not effective against-
Radar guided missiles such as the buck suspected.

Now all Israeli airlines are equipment with sky shield/ C-music to fly safer on the sensitive routes.

Need of missile defense system-

1.In 2002, Mombasa Kenya terrorist attacked on the Israeli Arkia airlines b757 from the two shoulder launched missiles, were fired at the b757. The flight was charter carrying tourist between Tel-Aviv to Mombasa airport. Missiles missed there intented targets. Then Israeli government decided to suspend all the flights from Israel until the development of anti-missiles system.

2. There are several incidents/ accidents happened with civilian Aircrafts.
2014- Downing of Malaysia airlines b777 MH17 Aircraft.

3. And more recent,

2020- downing of Ukrainian UIA b737, flight PS572. Where all the passenger lost their lives.

What do you think on the Sky shield defense system? I would love to hear your thoughts on this plz comment below.

Aviation updates-

1. Singapore airline announces that they will retiring the 26 Aircrafts. The 26 Aircrafts compromise of smallest to largest

Two of the A319, 9 A320s then moving across the wide body section, four b777-300ER and four of the b777-200. And finally biggest decision from Singapore airlines they decided to retire 7 A380.

2. Emirates retired it's first A380( giant of the sky).

The retirement had already been planned before the current crisis. For Emirates, 12 years giant of the skies has flown one last time to Tarbes In the Southwest France.

3. Lufhansa A330 had a emergency landing at Bangalore international airport, on Thursday after facing nose landing gear issues.

The cabin crew noticed the fault at 8000ft and opted to burn fuel and return to Bangalore for safety reasons. The plane landed safely in Bangalore three hours after departure with no injury to the passengers.

Incident details-

The flight in the incident was LH755, flying from Bangalore to Frankfort on November 5th with 78 passengers on board. The flight departed half an hour late at 4:03 local time. After just 10 min from take off pilot detects an error in nose landing gear.

Then sooner plane entered a holding pattern over the city and 20min later moved to 10,000 feet to burn fuel for it's diversion to Bangalore. The fuel burn is required to ensure the plane does not make a hard landing due higher weight of Aircraft.

The plane safety landed at Bangalore three hours after departure at  07:03 local time, with emergency services standing by, No injuries were noted among 78 passengers.
