How we prevent runway overshotting by zodiac arresting system ( EMAS max).


 Air travel has never been safer than today but this kind of security has jeopardize by runway excursions 


The international flight saftey standardization analysed the world wide aviation data from 2008 to 2019 this data states that

The runway excursions occurs 2 to 3 times per month.

Then after aircraft tow safely to the hanger and just after one hour Runway reopens.

Zodiac arresting system ( EMAS max) has game changer in aviation which reduces major accidents of Runway overshotting, with minimal damage to the aircraft.


As by the FAA- every airport has it's minimal safely area to prevent the runway overshotting.


Which includes 1000ft Runway safety area or EMAS( engineering material arresting system)


Providing a comparable level of safety.

As per FAA guidance EMAS can reduce the runway saftey area upto 600ft.

San Luis Obispo country airport has the first airport which having EMAS arresting system. EMAS arresting system can safely stop the fighter aircrafts also.

By applying 300ft rescue beds of an EMAS.


How does an EMAS stop the aircraft-

EMAS consists of engineering cellular cements blocks Were they are designed to stop the aircraft at 70 knots or less.


The strength of the EMAS are designed by considering the airports aircrafts fleet and by computer modeling.

The interrastion of EMAS beds and aircrafts wheels brings the aircraft slow down.

EMAS beds are remains functional all the time but repair has to be made from time to time

Zodiac aresting system EMAS has safely stop the 23 aircrafts till now and by saving thousands of lifes of people. The EMAS has capable of stopping the big jumbo aircrafts like b747 at JFK airport New York in 2005.


It is the only system that has stopped the aircraft safely by giving 100% of performance.


The EMAS has installed over 150+ Runways in the world.

And Also ICAO introduces the guidelines for the installation of The EMAS in the Annexure-14.


Think if this EMAS has installed in India we can very well capable of stopping recent accident which is happened at kozikode airport that Air India express b737 has overshoots the runway, if there is an EMAS system installed we can save that 18 peoples those who lost their lifes in that crash.


And also the crash happened at Mangalore airport in 2010.
