As we already knows that b737 max 8 aircafts are grounded More than 18 months now the FAA( federal aviation administrator) are come in the final certification process of b737 max. But still they getting some trouble with aircaft. this will be covered at last.
First will discuss what exactly happened with b737 max 8 aircaft-
At the 2010 Airbus lauches program of there Airbus a320 neo according to Airbus there a320 neo was the first aircraft which can save the fuel upto 10% more than any other aircraft that ever built. And then the orders continuously increasing on a320 neo, and after that American airlines orders the 200+ aircrafts to there fleet. At that time Airbus dominating the Boeing, then Boeing realize they have do to something. then at the same time at 2014 Boeing launches his b737 max 8 which is extended version of b737, the aircraft introduced according to Boeing it can save upto 16% of fuel. As compared to the Airbus a320 neo. b737 hasn't space below the wings as like below-
But just a few days later Boeing announces that they figure out the way to install big engines below the wings.
There solution is to move up the engines on the wings.
Here is the fottage of there pramotional video. You can actually see here the top of engines are above the wings. because of this change Boeing call this model as b737 max 8.
And suddenly Boeing get the 5000+ orders
But the problem of Boeing has started at Oct 29th 2018 the lion air flight 602 b737 max 8 crashes into the Java sea just after 12min from take off, from soekrano- hatta international airport Jakarta, Indonesia.
In this horrifying accident claimed the lives of 180 passenger.
In the investigation of accident investigators observed the aircraft is always doing the nose down pitching moment without any input from pilot.
After that Boeing says it's pilot error, b737 max 8 is safe to fly.
Then after five months later Ethiopian airlines flight 302 on 10 March 2019 the accident claimed the lives of 157 people, were 149 are passenger and 8 are crew members. After a 6 min from take off.
After the sudden two accidents FAA decided to ground all the b737 max 8 aircafts.
According to the aviation experts at the first time they think that there is problem with the aircraft engines.
But there is nothing wrong with the engine.
As mentioned earlier b737 max, except moving engines above the wings had a side effect with plane stability.
When the b737 max was in full thrust at the time of take off, the nose try to find to far upwards. And that can lead to stall of the aircraft.
That was the big problem ahead of Boeing.
Boeing decided that instead of re-engineering the plane they install software which automatically push the nose downward if the pilot flown the aircraft with too high in the angle of attack.
They call it as a maneuvering characteristics augmentation system( MCAS) .
But the Boeing has upgrade the b737 so they didn't highlight this new system installed on b737max 8, and before going for a flight pilot are guided for two hours iPad training before entering into the cockpit at the first time. And in training materials didn't mention the MCAS software. And pilot are given only short duration of difference training, on b737 max 8 aircafts and In that training they didn't mention anything about the MCAS software. This is major problem of the grounding of b738 max8 aircafts.
At 2018 the many Americans pilots complains to the FAA that new b737 max 8 was suddenly noseing down on flight.
And this same thing notice by the FAA on lion air crash that pilot has struggling to counteract the MCAS system, and there is nothing writinen about MCAS system in pilots quick handling book( which is used by the pilot in emergency situations) to stop the working of MCAS. As you can see clearly here in the below flight path the aircraft is continually gives the nose down pitching moment.
And this same thing observed in ehopian air crash.
For now all the b737 max 8 planes are grounded.
Then after that Boeing request to the FAA that they will remove the MCAS or to less the effect of MCAS to become more aggressive.
And at may 2020 Boeing started the training to the pilot on MCAS. And FAA also recording the results of test flights of b737 max.
And as per the latest news on 21 Oct 2020 FAA officials tests the b737 max 8 and results of the flights are good. And at the end of 2020 b737 max 8 recertification process will be completed and at the early 2021 b737 max 8 will be ready to fly. As per FAA guidelines.
Here are some footage from the certification process.
In India biggest operators of b737 max 8 is spice jet airline which is operating 15, b737 max 8 aircafts and 205 on order. DGCA has grounded all the planes.
But all over the world training for b737 max 8, pilots has bigins.
